A tale of two Kinshasas: Western-style luxury (above) and abject poverty (seen through the bars in the photo below) co-exist in DRC’s sprawling capital.

On April 28, I landed in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The opportunity to discover Congo was one of the main reasons I accepted this job* – like Zanzibar, it sounded mythical and inviting. And, like many places on my itinerary, Congo was somewhere I probably wouldn’t get to otherwise.
