Cornelius Kreighoff’s painting Sleigh Race across the Ice (1861) depicts the dangers involved when the speed of a horse-drawn sleigh was tested in winter.

Arrived at Greenock [Scotland] from Quebec on the 19th November, the [ships] Jane and the Mars, both sailed from Quebec on the 16th October. The Rebecca Harvey, arrived at the same port on the 24th November, sailed from Quebec on the 23rd October.
