CHU Foundation Gala de Boxe fast approaching

The Gala de Boxe Challenge XPN for the Fondation du CHU is only a week away and the boxers are working hard to be ready for their upcoming matches.

The event will take place on the evening of May 31 and the afternoon of June 1 at the Colisée de Loretteville with over 20 male and female matches on both boxing cards.

One of the owners of Unis Boxe Loretteville, Denis Perreault, is organizing the event along with Dr. Jean-François Roy, who helped initiate the event in 2018.

“Last year, we raised over $47,000,” said Perreault. “This year, we expect a sell-out crowd and over 2,000 spectators in the arena.”

A team of trainers, referees, judges and doctors will be present to help the boxers during training and at the events. Even the club’s chiropractor, Dr. Sylvain Auger, will help out as the event’s pacer. As this is a family event, the participants may not be very disciplined, said Auger. He continued, “I have to make sure they’re ready to go for their match at the right time. I have to pair each fighter with the right coach, in the right warm-up sequence, and make sure he or she gets to the ring on time.”

Andrew Greenfield, who works at the Central Québec School Board, will be one of the boxers at the Gala. His opponent will be Vincent Hudon. “I’m in my mid-40s and my opponent is 28,” laughed Greenfield.

Greenfield started boxing last December, as a way to get back in shape.

“I bought tickets for the last gala, and I said to myself, I need to do this, especially since it’s for a great cause as well,” added Greenfield.

The training is also what got Greenfield involved. “It works speed, power, endurance, strength, and cardio,” said Greenfield. “I’ve found a new passion and when the gala is over, I’ll be back here training.”

Tickets are $50, but you should reserve yours quickly as they are almost all sold. You can also make a donation online at jedonneenligne.org/fondationchudequebec/campagne/ChallengeXPN/participants/Profiles.
